Publication Awareness Regarding Learning Disabilities Among Basic Level Teachers in Selected Schools of Pokhara, Nepal(Perinatal Society of Nepal (PESON), 2024) Poudel, Dipika; Lamichhane, SabinaAbstract: Introduction: Learning disabilities are the disorders that affect the ability to understand or use spoken or written language, do mathematical calculations, coordinate movements or direct attention. It is a developmental disorder seen in children usually recognized in school age. A learning disability may not be curable, but with the right support and intervention, children with learning disabilities can succeed in school and go on to successful, often distinguished careers later in life. The study’s objective is to assess the awareness level regarding learning disability among basic level teachers in selected schools of Pokhara. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was adopted among 128 basic level teachers in schools of Pokhara. A structured knowledge questionnaire was developed focusing on learning disabilities. About four Government school were selected by purposive sampling technique and basic level teachers were selected by total enumeration technique. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS software version 23. Descriptive (mean, frequency, percentage, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (chi-square) test as per the nature of data. Results: The present study revealed that slightly more (50.8%) of the respondents had overall low awareness whereas (49.25%) of the respondents had overall high awareness regarding learning disability. There was a statistically significant association between family history, source of information (friend) and level of awareness at the p-value < 0.05. Conclusion: The result of the present study revealed that the level of awareness about learning disability among basic level teachers is low as none of them had adequate awareness on concept and definition of learning disability. Appropriate training should be provided to the teachers regarding identification, diagnosing and managing the child with learning problems so that child can succeed in school and go on successful careers later in life.Publication Knowledge Regarding Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and its Vaccination among Adolescent Girls in a School of Pokhara, Nepal(Perinatal Society of Nepal (PESON), 2025) Lamichhane, Sabina; Gurung, ChristinaAbstract: Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common reproductive tract infections responsible for a variety of cancers and other conditions in both men and women. By the age of 45, it is estimated that more than 80% of sexually active men and women will have contracted at least one HPV infection. Objective: To assess the knowledge regarding human papillomavirus and its vaccination among adolescent girls in a school of Pokhara. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 142 adolescent girls in a school of Pokhara. The data was collected using a self-administered structured questionnaire. Adolescent girls studying in Classes 9 and 10 were selected and proportionate stratified sampling technique was used to determine the number of samples to be taken from each section of both classes. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS Software. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Chi-square test) were used as per the nature of the data. Results: The mean age of respondent was 14.46±0.896. Majority (53.5%) of the respondents had poor level of knowledge whereas only (46.5%) of the respondents had good level of knowledge human papilloma virus and its vaccination. Factors like age, class of the student and source of information were found to be significantly associated with the respondent’s level of knowledge. Conclusion: The study concluded that majority of the adolescent girls had poor level of knowledge regarding human papillomavirus and its vaccination. There is an increased need to plan nationwide awareness programs about HPV infection and its associated vaccine targeting adolescent girls and their parents. Also, the government should continue to emphasize the importance of HPV vaccination as an essential preventative measure for adolescent girls.Publication Knowledge regarding Pneumonia among Parents of Under-Five Children in Phedikhola Rural Municipality, Syangja, Nepal(Central Department of Public Health, 2025) Lamichhane, Sabina; Paudel, PrashamsaBackground: Pneumonia is a form of acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs. Parents are the ones with whom the children spend most of their time. By having knowledge regarding pneumonia, parents can recognize potential signs such as cough, lower chest wall in drawing, rapid breathing or difficulty in breathing at an early stage. This study aims to assess the knowledge regarding pneumonia among the parents of under 5 children in Phedikhola rural municipality, Syangja. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive research study was conducted to assess knowledge regarding pneumonia among the parents of under 5 children in Phedikhola rural municipality, Syangja, Nepal. Samples were selected using nonprobability purposive sampling technique among 211 parents having children aged less than 5 years. The data was collected through structured interview schedule using semi structured questionnaire which was made based on different literatures. Collected data were entered in Epi data and analyzed using SPSS software. Descriptive and inferential statistics tests were used as per the nature of the data. Results: The findings of the study revealed that, out of 211 parents interviewed in the study, less than two third (30.8%) of the parents had low level of knowledge, more than two third (39.8%) of the parents had moderate level of knowledge and less than one third (29.4%) of the parents had high level of knowledge regarding pneumonia. The mean score of knowledge was found to be 31.54 with SD 7.228. Regarding the association between selected demographic variables and level of knowledge among parents, no any significant association was found. Conclusion: The findings of the current research study concluded that more than one third of the parents had moderate level of knowledge regarding pneumonia. No association was found between the selected demographic variables and level of knowledge among parents. Appropriate health education and awareness program related to pneumonia is necessary to increase the level of knowledge among the parents.
