Publication Evaluation of Surface Roughness of Nanofilled Composite Restorations after Simulated Tooth Brushing using Various Dentifrices(Kathmandu University, 2018) Rana, M; Upadhya, M; Jaiswal, A; Tyagi, KABSTRACT Background Teeth restored with direct composite resin are constantly exposed to specific challenges of the oral cavity. These challenges can modify the material properties and, when associated with daily brushing, eventually change its surface roughness, allowing bacterial growth and retention of extrinsic pigments. Dentifrices plays an important role in dental wear (abrasion) and over time, can also cause an increase in the surface roughness of restorative materials. Objective To assess the effect of dentifrices on the longevity of direct nanofilled composite resins restorations as far as wear and roughness is concerned. Method Class V cavity were prepared on 90 extracted human teeth and restored with Filtek Z350 composite. Teeth were randomly divided into 6 experimental groups of 15 each labelled as Group-1 (Colgate Dental cream) Group-2 (Colgate Active Salt toothpaste), Group-3 (Pepsodent Regular toothpaste), Group-4 (Dabur red toothpaste), Group-5 (Dabur Lal tooth powder) and Group-6 Control (water). The samples were fixed on tooth brushing machine and subjected to mechanical tooth brushing using various dentifrices according to respective groups in 3 phases and reading of surface roughness (Ra) was recorded. Result Surface roughness (Ra) had increased in following order: Group 6 < Group 3 < Group 2 < Group 1 < Group 4 < Group 5. All the tooth pastes were compared, their behaviour was found to be similar as there was no statistically significant difference amongst them. Though all of them were inferior to control group and the difference was statistically significant. Whereas the only tooth powder Dabur lal tooth powder gave the maximum roughness when compared with the other tooth pastes and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion With increase in time of brushing there was increase in surface roughness in all the 5 dentifrices among them Ra was maximum for Dabur lal tooth powder. Emergency contraception is a method used to avoid pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse unlike the regular methods of contraception that are taken before sexual contact. Oral contraceptive pills and intrauterine contraceptive devices are mainly used as emergency contraceptives. The aim of this study was to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of emergency contraceptive among women Methods: A descriptive cross sectional research design was carried out .Non probability purposive sampling was used to select sample which was 174 reproductive aged women attending family planning clinic of TUTH. Data was collected by interview using semi structured interview questionnaire. Data analysis was done by descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 17.0. Results: Based on findingsmajority 67.24% of respondent had knowledge to prevent unintended pregnancy, regarding practice only 13% used emergency contraceptive (EC) correctly within 72 hours of unsafe intercourse. 90.80% of respondents used family planning (FP) methods to reduce unwanted pregnancy. 47.13% responded correctly as EC is not a method of abortion and among all respondents 43.68% did abortion for unwanted pregnancy. Maximum82.76% respondents had positive attitude towards EC. Conclusion: The study findings showed majority of respondents had knowledge to prevent unintended and unwanted pregnancy; but only few percentage practice EC correctly within 72 hours of unsafe intercourse. Similarly majority of respondents had positive attitude towards EC, hence IEC programme should be planned to provide information regarding prevention of unintended pregnancy among reproductive aged women. The aim of the study was to determine the psychosocial correlates and treatment compliance in depressive disorder patients, coming to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal. Methods: Psychosocial profiles of 135 depressive disorder patients diagnosed by consultant psychiatrist according to ICD-10 and meeting the study criteria, attending out-patient clinic, Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Teaching Hospital, were included. The study sample were randomized into three different groups; i.e. cognitive behavior therapy, pharmacotherapy or combined therapy (receiving both cognitive behavior therapy and pharmacotherapy). Psychosocial correlates, illness characteristics and treatment compliance in depressive disorder were assessed by Semi-Structured Interview Schedule, Beck Depression Inventory, Automatic Thought Questionnaire-Revised and Visual Analogue Scale, by comparing the pre and post therapy results and drop- out rates. Results: Before therapeutic interventions, 53(39.3%) had moderate, 47(34.8%) had severe depressive and 35(25.9%) had mild depressive symptoms. Negative automatic thoughts, hopelessness, anxiety and inability coping; low socio-economic assets and education; relationship and adjustment problems and significant life events were significant psychosocial correlates of depression. Compliance was poor in the pharmacotherapy group. Total 30 (22.2%) patients had dropped-out during the study period: 15(33%) from pharmacotherapy, 11(24%) from Cognitive Behavior Therapy and 6(13%) from combined therapy group. Conclusion: Psychosocial factors were significantly correlated with depressive disorder. Compliance to treatment and recovery was better in the combined therapy group than either therapy alone. Self esteem and marital adjustment has been seen as significant factors that impact in the individual’s substance using behavior. The aim of the research was to evaluate the Self Esteem and marital adjustment among the clients in the Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program (MMTP). Methods: The purpose of the study was to assess the level of self esteem and marital adjustment among the clients under Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Study participants comprised of 61 clients who met the inclusion criteria and gave the consent. It was descriptive and cross-sectional study design. The study was carried out to determine the association between the socio demographic variables, self esteem and marital adjustment. Rosenberg self esteem scale was used to assess the level of self esteem and marital adjustment questionnaire (MAQ) was used to assess their marital adjustment. Results: The result show there is no significant association between level of self esteem and different socio demographic variables including age group, sex, religion, occupation, and family type of the clients. Similarly, there is no significant association between level of marital adjustment and different socio demographic variables including age group, sex, religion, occupation, and family type of the clients. Conclusion: The study has explored the self esteem and the marital adjustment of the clients under the treatment of oral substitution therapy. Clients under Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program (MMTP) report maintained marital adjustment, sexual adjustment, emotional adjustment, social adjustment and self esteem.
