Prevalence of Postpartum Depression in A Tertiary Health Care
(Nepal Medical Association, 2020) Pradhananga, Priza; Mali, Prajita; Poudel, Lisasha; Gurung, Minani
Abstract Introduction: Postpartum Depression is an important public health problem in developing country like Nepal. Although prevalence of postpartum depression is high in our setting, it is most neglected area of mental health. These have negative consequences not only to mother but also to infant. Data related to postpartum depression in Nepal are limited, research in this particular field will contribute in knowing the gravity of the situation and helps to formulate the factor association to upcoming researchers. This research is done in order to find out the prevalence of postpartum depression. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, among total 348 postnatal mothers who were selected through convenient sampling technique. Validated Nepalese version of Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale was used to screen depressive symptoms. Data was collected after receiving ethical approval letter. Data entry was done using SPSS version 20. Results: Out of total mothers, the prevalence of Postpartum Depression (PPD) was seen among 51 mothers (14.7%). Conclusions: Postpartum Depression being a common yet neglected area of maternal health in Nepal, should be detected in early stage. As, the study showed that about one sixth of mothers had postpartum depression, more focus should be given to maternal mental health. Keywords: postpartum depression; prevalence; tertiary health care.

Study of the Head of Human Dry Radii in a Medical College of Nepal: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study
(Nepal Medical Association, 2020) Kadel, Muna; Thapa, Trilok Pati
Abstract Introduction: Radius is a lateral bone of forearm. Its proximal end forms a part of elbow joint and superior radioulnar joint. Knowledge of the shape and size of radial head is essential for construction of radial head prosthesis. The objective of this study is to study the morphology of head of human dry radii. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in human dry radii in the Dissection hall of Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences, Sanobharyang, Kathmandu, Nepal from September to October 2019. Ethical approval was taken. Altogether, 68 dry bones were enrolled in the study by convenience sampling method. Radial head was studied in respect to anteroposterior and transverse diameter, height at medial and distal end and shape. Mean and standard deviations of the parameters were obtained by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. Results: Mean height of radial head at medial and lateral end was 0.91cm and 0.76cm respectively. Mean anteroposterior and transverse diameter of radial head were 2.09 cm and 2.02 cm respectively. Most common shape of radial head in this study was circular in 40 radii (59%) followed by elliptical in 23 (34%). Mean depth of the superior articular facet of the radial head was 0.19 mm. Conclusions: The most common shape of radial head is elliptical but it was found to be circular in this study. This study will be useful for orthopedic surgeons in making prosthesis of radial head. Keywords: head; neck; orthopedics; prosthesis; radius.

Tooth Shade and Skin Colour: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study
(Nepal Medical Association, 2020) Pradhan, Dilesh; Shrestha, Lajana; Lohani, Junu
Abstract Introduction: Selection of proper tooth shade is one of the most significant factors influencing patients’ aesthetic perception and improved prosthesis acceptance. Guidelines in the dental literature suggest age, sex, colour of skin, hair and eye for selecting tooth shade when past records cannot be obtained. The objective of the study was to observe the most common tooth shade in relation to the skin colour and the prevalence of the same in relation to age and sex. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at Kathmandu Medical College from June to August 2019. Vitapan Classical Shade guide was used to select the shade of upper right central incisorin 338 participants. Revlon Foundation Makeup Shade guide was used to determine colour of skin. Participants were examined without facial makeup. Skin colour and teeth shade were examined in daylight at about sametime of the day. Data obtained were computed and analysed using Microsoft Excel 2016 software. Results: Prevalence of tooth shade with high value (lighter shade) was seen in all fair (121, 35.8%), medium (63, 18.6%) and dark skin tones (23, 6.8%). Most common teeth shade in fair individuals was B1 (47, 37.9%), in medium also B1 (25, 7.4%) and dark was B2 (9, 2.7%). Age range of 10 to 35 years had tooth shade with higher value (159, 47.04%). Conclusions: Hence, teeth shade with high value (lighter shade) was prevalent in skin tone of all types in current study. Skin tone was not related to teeth shade selection, teeth became darker with age and females had lighter teeth shade (high value). Keywords: Nepal; shade guide; skin colour; tooth shade.

Caregiver Burden among Caregivers of patient undergoing Hemodialysis in Tertiary Care Center : A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study
(Nepal Medical Association, 2020) Chhetri, Srijana Khatri; Baral, Rojina
Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease affects almost all aspects of life of the patients and caregivers. Dialysis is a common treatment modality for Chronic Renal Failure. The caregivers of patients undergoing hemodialysis bear the emotional and psychological stress of having a chronically ill patient. The physical and psychological distress, limitations in personal and social activities, loss of freedom, financial limitations directly or indirectly affect the level of burden among caregivers. This study aims to study the level of burden among caregivers of patient undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study among 123 caregivers giving care to hemodialysis patients for at least 3 months at Teaching Hospitals, Chitwan was carried out using simple random sampling technique. Level of burden was evaluated using the burden questionnaire (Zarit Burden Interview). Results: The study revealed that 60 (48.78%) had mild to moderate, 53 (43.08%) had moderate to severe. The median scores for burden among the caregivers was (39.30±11.68) with 44.65%. Conclusions: Coping Strategies, social support, support interventions has greater impact on caregivers in achieving their roles in caring the patients and increases the capability to cope effectively with the patient’s condition. Keywords: burden; caregiver; hemodialysis
